ITS Full Stack Web Developer Internship

Program Office/Description: 

Our application development group is responsible for supporting critical special education initiatives through the development, maintenance, and enhancement of specialized software applications. We play a crucial role in ensuring the effective delivery and monitoring of special education services across ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵapp State.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

The prospective intern(s) will work side by side with developers as well as managers in the new application development unit within ITS. The interns will be expected balance daily work alongside projects assigned to them via our ticketing and work tracking system, Jira. The interns are expected to be able to assist in the maintenance and new development of our unit's Java projects while tracking work, doing code reviews, and furthering their knowledge in application development.

- Associated Special Education Programs

• Participate in comprehensive walk through sessions of the application's architecture
• Understand how different modules interact to support special education services
• Analyze the application's database and its representation of special education data
• Take ownership of resolving minor bugs, understanding their implications on service delivery
• Contribute to a planned enhancement of an existing feature
• Understand the full cycle from gathering educator feedback to implementation and deployment
• Review the application's accessibility features
• Participate in meetings with education department stakeholders
• Learn how to translate between technical details and educational impact
• Work with the user experience team to understand design decisions
• Create documentation or user guides for specific application features
• Propose innovative features that could enhance the application's support for personalized learning or progress monitoring.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

Preferred:
1.Bachelor's degree in any if the following:
-Computer Science
-Information Science
-Other STEM adjacent majors

Schedule/Hours: 

15-20 hours per week.

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

Undergraduate students will be paid $15/hour and graduate students will be paid $18/hour. For all offices located in NYC or Westchester, Suffolk, or Nassau Counties, undergraduate students will be paid $16.00/hour and graduate students will be paid $19.00/hour.Ìý
